JOHOR BARU: A total of 1,062 flash-flood victims from Segamat and Tangkak sought refuge at 20 relief centres across the districts today.
State Secretary and Johor Disaster Management Committee chairman Tan Sri Dr Azmi Rohani said it recorded a significant increase in the number of evacuees, with the situation worsening due to ongoing heavy rains.
As of 11am, the number of victims and relief centre occupants had surged.
In Segamat, 18 centres are housing 892 victims from 256 families, with Buloh Kasap villages hit the hardest.
Serom in Ledang, Tangkak, was also severely affected.
Eight rivers are currently under alert warnings, including Sungai Muar in Kampung Tekam, Segamat, where water levels have reached dangerous levels.
