GUA MUSANG: Dewan Semai Bakti Felda Chiku 7 has become the first temporary evacuation centre (PPS) to open in the Gua Musang district following the second wave of floods.
The PPS, which began operations at 11.20am, is currently sheltering 36 families, comprising 158 flood victims from the Felda Chiku 7 area, as of 3 pm today.
The village chief of the Tanpa Mukim of the Paloh state constituency Razali Mat Daud said that by 6.45am, access roads to the settlement were flooded and impassable for light vehicles.
He said that the continuous rainfall since yesterday afternoon caused the Sungai Chiku to overflow, inundating roads and residents' homes.
"A total of 36 flood-affected families began relocating to the PPS in stages at 11am today. It is still raining, and the water level of Sungai Chiku continues to rise," he said when contacted today.
Flood victim Muzri Mohamad, 40, said that floodwaters had submerged roads and surrounding areas, cutting off access to the village.
He said that the water from Sungai Chiku overflowed onto the roads after the heavy rain since yesterday evening.
"Roads in the village are now impassable except for four-wheel-drive vehicles, and the water level is approaching my house. The water level is visibly rising, and now all access roads are blocked. Boats are the only means of transporting residents in and out of the village," he said.
