Police report filed over Chinese flags display at carnival in Gambir

TANGKAK: A police report has been lodged by the Ledang Umno Youth Division following the display of Chinese flags on a spaceship replica at a carnival.

According to Sinar Harian, Gambir state assemblyman Sahrihan Jani confirmed the report was filed on Wednesday and called for stern action against the organisers.

"Strict action must be taken, including prosecution in court against the organisers and the immediate closure of the carnival's operations," he said.

Sahrihan said that he had been unofficially informed that the carnival would cease operations from Thursday.

"However, an apology is not enough to rectify this wrongdoing," he added.

"The community in Gambir has clearly rejected any underlying attempts aimed at promoting something contrary to the spirit of unity and love for Malaysia," he added.

District police chief, Superintendent Roslan Mohd Talib, confirmed receiving the report and added that investigations into the matter are ongoing.

According to the South China Morning Post (SCMP), in October, rocket engineer Wang Haoze made history as the first civilian woman astronaut from China, launching aboard the Shenzhou-19 spacecraft towards the Tiangong space station.

The replica in question does not resemble the Shenzhou-19 but rather the Space Shuttle operated by the American space programme between 1981 and 2011.
