Teen couple detained after baby's body discovered at toll plaza

SUBANG JAYA: The body of a baby, believed to have been born in the toilet of a shopping centre in Puchong, was discarded in the toilet at Plaza Tol Batu 14, Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP) here last week.

The shocking incident came to light when the teenage girl who gave birth to the baby sought treatment at Hospital Sultan Idris Shah, Serdang, on Dec 18, after experiencing stomach pain and fever.

Police confirmed that a couple, aged 16 and 19, were involved in the incident, with the baby believed to have been born prematurely.

According to sources, the teenage girl, who was suffering from stomach pain and fever, sought treatment at the hospital before doctors realised she had given birth.

"The teenager then admitted to giving birth in the toilet of a shopping centre in Puchong before her boyfriend discarded the baby in the toilet at the toll plaza.

"Members of the public using the toilet at the toll plaza found the lifeless baby at 10pm on Dec 18 and immediately contacted the police," the source said.

Meanwhile, Subang Jaya district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat, confirmed the incident when contacted.

He said the couple was detained last week before being released on police bail.

"Investigations found that the baby was born prematurely.

"The suspect was released on police bail pending a chemical report," he told Harian Metro tonight.

Wan Azlan said the case is being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code.
