A representative from the Tebrau police station in Johor Baru confirmed that the video was an old incident, and the police had received a report.
"We received a report on Aug 31, 2022, at 7.15pm," he said.
A news portal previously reported that a 39-year-old man and his female accomplice had allegedly stolen some items from the hypermarket before the incident.
Their alleged shoplifting was detected when they attempted to leave without paying and triggered the security alarm at the payment counter.
Among the stolen items were household appliances and chocolates, causing the hypermarket to incur an estimated loss of around RM952.19.
The portal said a report lodged on the incident stated that the suspects tried to flee from the hypermarket in a red car, which was driven dangerously in the parking area before crashing into a car and a motorcycle.
Some viewers also recognised the video as an old incident. In the comments section, user @nureidayasaid90 said it was an old video recorded at a hypermarket in Tebrau, Johor Baru.
