ALOR SETAR: As the political turmoil in Kedah resulted in the resignation of its Menteri Besar today, the state is set to witness the swearing-in of a new chief today.
Jeneri assemblyman, Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor is scheduled to be sworn in as the 14th Kedah Menteri Besar today, as announced by Kedah state secretary Datuk Ammar Shaikh Mahmood Naim.
This after Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir announced his resignation from the post in a press conference this morning.
Ammar said the Sultan of Kedah, Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah consented to Mukhriz's resignation.
He said the Sultan had also consented to the resignation of all state executive councillors effective today.
"On May 15, His Majesty found that Mukhriz no longer has the confidence of the majority of the state assemblymen and therefore His Majesty consented to Mukhriz's resignation along with the Excos according to Article 37 (6) of Kedah Consitution.
"Following that, the Sultan has consented to appoint Sanusi, the Jeneri assemblyman, as the new Kedah MB and the appointment is according to Article 35 and 37 (2) (a) of the Kedah Constitution," Ammar said.
