Kit Siang to receive 'Tan Sri' title tomorrow?

KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran DAP leader Lim Kit Siang is expected to receive the title of Tan Sri in conjunction with the 64th Birthday of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah tomorrow.

It is understood that Kit Siang, 82, who has served as a Member of Parliament (MP) in seven constituencies from 1969 to 2022, is the first DAP leader to be awarded the title.

The title is the second-highest federal honour, after the Crown Prince, Seri Maharaja Mangku Negara (SMN) or the Crown Prince of Malaysia, Seri Setia Mahkota which carries the title of Tun.

A photo of Kit Siang who attended the rehearsal ceremony for the awarding of the honor was shared by former Jelutong MP, Jeff Ooi Chuan Aun on Facebook, today.

Jeff Ooi in his post said Kit Siang went to the rehearsal and had called the former DAP Chairman as 'Tan Sri'.

"The Lim veteran family. Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang (Rehearsal). Tun Lim Chong Eu. Tun Ling Liong Sik. Tun Lim Keng Yaik.

"The awarding ceremony is on Monday, June 5. There is still time to buy songkok.

"The songkok during the rehearsal didn't really fit his head. It looked like a boy's songkok worn on his father's head," he said.
