The world No 12 were unable to keep up the momentum as they fell to a 21-13, 21-9 defeat to Japan's world No 4 Takuro Hoki-Yugo Kobayashi in the semi-finals in Huelva, Spain on Satuday.
It was a tame defeat,and the pair will be disappointed with themselves.
The Malaysians had defeated Olympic gold medallists Lee Yang-Wang Chi Lin of Taiwan in the quarter-finals a day earlier.
Hoki-Kobayashi will take on China's He Jiting-Tan Qiang in the final later today.
The world No 24 secured their spot in the final by beating world No 10 Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen 21-16, 13-21, 21-15.
Meanwhile, Singapore could celebrate their first-ever world champion after the red-hot Loh Kean Yew stormed into the men's singles final.
The world No 22, who has surged to prominence in recent weeks, defeated world No 3 Anders Antonsen of Denmark 23-21, 21-14 and meets India's former world No 1 K. Srikanth in the final.
"I am delighted to make history as the first Singaporean in the final, but it's not over yet and I have to focus on the next match," Kean Yew told BWF on Saturday.
Srikanth outlasted compatriot Lakshya Sen 17-21, 21-14, 21-17 in 69 minutes in his semi-final match.
