SEPANG: Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik will each receive RM220,000 for winning the men's doubles world title in Tokyo on Sunday.
Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) president Tan Sri Norza Zakaria said: "We (BAM) will give each player RM150,000 for winning the world title.
"Our sponsor, Yonex, will add another RM50,000 to each player," said Norza, also the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) president, upon arrival at KLIA from Tokyo today.
Under the National Sports Council (NSC) incentive scheme, Aaron and Wooi Yik will each receive another RM20,000.
"I feel the amount is not sufficient for this outstanding achievement. I will discuss the matter with NSC and the Youth and Sports Ministry. The pair deserve much more," added Norza, who turned 56 today.
He celebrated his birthday at KLIA with his wife Puan Sri Zulaiha Zainal Abidin.
Norza confirmed that Aaron and Wooi Yik will participate in the National Day parade in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.
"Aaron and Wooi Yik were supposed to play in the Japan Open. However, following their world championships victory, we have decided to bring them back to join the Merdeka celebration.
"We are arranging all the logistic work to make sure they will be here on Wednesday."
