Danger man Jun Hao eyes more victims at Indonesia Open

KUALA LUMPUR: Men's singles player Leong Jun Hao has shown promising progress in the past few weeks.

However, the former Asian junior champion is expected to face his stiffest challenge yet when he competes in the Indonesia Open this week.

Due to several withdrawals, world No. 36 Jun Hao made the cut for the Super 1000 event by being the highest-ranked player on the reserves list.

The 25-year-old said: "I'm really glad to make the cut as this is a very big tournament.

"Yes, I've been playing well since the Thomas Cup (May), but I need to try and maintain that consistency.

"It has been positive, but it's up to me and what I do on court that matters most."

Jun Hao has had some significant victories, including wins against Hong Kong's Angus Ng and Japan's Koki Watanabe at the Thomas Cup.

However, his most notable career win so far was against Indonesia's Anthony Sinisuka Ginting in the second round of the Singapore Open this week.

Jun Hao will play Indonesia's world No. 3 Jonatan Christie or Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo, which will be determined after the team managers' meeting on Monday, in the first round.

Meanwhile, the other Malaysian player in the main draw is Paris Olympic-bound Lee Zii Jia.

World No. 9 Zii Jia will play France's Christo Popov in the opening round.
