Malaysia Cricket director of development Mohamed Rozlan Abdul Alim Sidique said Malaysia started off well in bowling by restricting Sri Lanka to 44 runs with four wickets down.
"But Sri Lanka are strong contenders with a good set of players unlike our team who are mostly students."
Malaysia will have a day's rest before playing Bangladesh.
