KUALA LUMPUR: Lady luck smiled on Malaysia in the Sea Games draw ceremony when Ong Kim Swee's side were placed in an easy group for the football competition on Saturday.
Malaysia were drawn in Group A with 2015 silver medallist Myanmar, Singapore, Laos and Brunei.
The target set for Kim Swee is for the national team to regain the gold medal last won by Malaysia at the 2011 Indonesia Sea Games.
Group B comprise defending champions Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, Timor Leste and the Philippines.
"We have a good draw with Myanmar and Singapore being our main rivals. However, we cannot take Laos and Brunei lightly," said Kim Swee after the draw ceremony.
The football competition is scheduled on Aug 14-29 at various venues in the Klang Valley.
