PETALING JAYA: Selangor recorded an emotional 1-0 win over Kedah in today's Super League match at MBPJ Stadium here today.
The evening began beautifully with a heartfelt tribute from the fans in the seventh minute for acid-attack victim Faisal Halim.
Nidzam Jamil's side had to wait until the 85th minute to break the deadlock. Supersub Aliff Haiqal Lokman Hakim Lau, who replaced Mukhairi Ajmal Mahadi just four minutes earlier, scored the decisive goal, securing Selangor's first three points of the season.
In celebration, Aliff, who dons the No. 77 jersey, faced the stands filled with Selangor supporters and mimicked Cristiano Ronaldo's iconic 'siu' celebration, a tribute to Faisal's signature move.
At the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) celebrated two major achievements - securing the Charity Shield and beating Negri Sembilan 3-1.
Prior to their 5:30 pm kickoff against Negri in Iskandar Puteri, JDT coach Hector Bidoglio and captain Jordi Amat lifted the Charity Shield on behalf of the Southern Tigers for the eighth consecutive time.
This came after Selangor withdrew, resulting in a 3-0 walkover in favour of JDT.
JDT's Bergson Da Silva scored twice, netting in the 12th and 17th minutes.
Hein Htet Aung reduced the deficit for Negri in the 28th minute.
Jordi Amat scored JDT's third goal in the 71st minute, securing another three points for the team.
