Gavin finishes tied eighth at India Open

KUALA LUMPUR: National No 1 golfer Gavin Kyle Green finally made his first DP World Tour (European Tour) cut of the season with an encouraging tied eighth place at the India Open in Haryana on Sunday.

The 29-year-old Gavin, making his fifth start of the season, fired a closing five-under to finish the tournament at the DLF Golf and Country Club on six-under 282 total.

Gavin, a runner-up in the 2017 edition, marked his final scorecard with an eagle, five birdies and two bogeys, finishing eight shots adrift of winner Marcel Siem of Germany.

The result was certainly rejuvenating for the former Asian Tour Order of Merit winner after having commenced his sixth full DP World Tour season on the back foot.

Gavin did not make the weekend rounds of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, Dubai Desert Classic, Singapore Classic and Thailand Classic.

But following the India Open, Gavin has climbed to 133th of the season-long Race to Dubai standings.

Gavin entered the 2023 season with plenty of optimism after enjoying his best season in 2022 by coming in 31st overall.

He came close twice to securing a long-awaited DP World Tour breakthrough victory with runner-up finishes at the Czech Masters and Portugal Masters.

With so much to play for this year, Gavin knows he needs to step up to the plate.

Through the ground-breaking strategic alliance between DP World Tour and PGA Tour which was announced last year, the leading 10 Race to Dubai finishers this year will earn a card for the US flagship tour.

Gavin will now switch his attention to the Kenya Open from March 9-12 and keep building on the momentum.
