KARIB organises golf reunion with former Balai Berita staff

KUALA LUMPUR: For the very first time, Kelab Alumni Riong Bangsar (KARIB) hosted the Golf Silaturahim 2024 at Bangi Golf Resort yesterday.

The reunion event saw participation from 32 players, including former staff members of Berita Harian (BH), Harian Metro (HM), New Straits Times (NST), and The New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd (NSTP).

Current employees from the three mainstream newspapers, including NSTP group managing editor and BH group editor Datuk Ahmad Zaini Kamaruzzaman, also took part.

Among other participants were KARIB advisor and former BH group editor Datuk Manja Ismail, and KARIB president Datuk Abdul Karim Mustafa. Also present were former NSTP group managing editor Mustapha Kamil Mohd Janor, former BH group editor Datuk Saidon Idris, and former NST group editor Lokman Mansor.

Notable attendees included former BH journalists who are now in other fields, such as lawyer Datuk Khairul Anwar, as well as Datuk Dahlan Maamor, Datuk Zuhri Iskandar, Shauqi Ahmad, Abu Bakar Atan, Mutazar Abd Ghani, Wan Hazmir Bakar, Osman Lisut, and photographers Datuk Muhammad Ibrahim @ Mat Metro, Rosli Ahmad, and Zulkipli Osman @ Zoro.

The tournament, held in the 36 stableford format, was won by Mohd Dharfifi Dahlan with 38 points, while the runner-up spots went to Aziz Hassan (37) and Khairul (37).

The prize-giving ceremony was officiated by KARIB advisor, former HM group editor and Malaysian Press Institute CEO Datuk Mustapa Omar, along with KARIB secretary-general, Saodi Mat Atar.

In his speech, Karim expressed his happiness that the golf event reconnected former staff members from the Balai Berita building on Jalan Riong, Kuala Lumpur.

"This Golf Reunion is one of the activities planned by KARIB for this year, as many former BH, HM, NST, and NSTP staff are active in this sport.

"We hope to continue organising various programmes to strengthen ties, including more golf events, possibly after KARIB's Annual General Meeting at the end of this month.

"In fact, we have been planning several other events to allow more KARIB members to meet face-to-face after a long separation following retirement or resignation from Balai Berita.

"At the same time, we encourage former staff members who have yet to register with KARIB to do so through me or Saodi, to ensure the continued growth and activity of KARIB," he said.
