Flash flood hits two villages in Kuala Muda

KUALA MUDA: About six houses here were inundated after heavy rain swept through the Kuala Muda district today.

The flash flood incident, which occurred at 10:10 am, affected three houses in Kampung Jerung, Sidam Kiri, and three others in Kampung Haji Wahab, Sungai Petani.

Kuala Muda Civil Defence Force officer Azahar Ahmad said a temporary flood relief centre was being set up in Kampung Jerung.

"Heavy rain in Sidam Kiri and Sungai Petani, resulted in an unexpected overflow of water, causing the flash flood.

"The incident damaged properties as water levels reached between 0.1m and 0.3m," he said in a statement today.

Azahar advised all affected households to relocate to the nearby temporary flood relief centre if the condition worsened.

"Currently, light rain persists, and floodwaters continue to rise," he added.
