KUALA LUMPUR: The younger sister of the late Yasmin Ahmad, Datin Orked Ahmad recently revealed that there was no filmmaker who dared enough to direct the film Wasurenagesa which Yasmin was set to do in 2009.
“I still keep the script until now. I’ve asked around if anyone would take over the project, including production crew members who were close to her, but to no avail,” said Orked at the launch of the book Yasmin I Lup Chew here yesterday.
Orked said that every aspect of the film had been decided such as the cast, the locations and the script.
“What is left to do is the filming in itself and that needs a director brave enough to take over the reins.
She has even approached actress-director Sharifah Amani who is known to be very close to Yasmin.
“Even she felt that she could not do it,” said Orked in a news report today.
Orked who was met at the launch of Yasmin’s second book entitled Yasmin I Lup Chew yesterday could not hold back her tears at the event.
She said she was moved by the undying support by the public towards her sister’s legacy.
“The legacy she left behind means a lot to our family and it needs to be continued.
“I am sure Yasmin would have been really proud to see all this even though she was never one who enjoyed being celebrated in a big event such as this. This celebration is especially for those who have worked hard to realise her second book,” said Orked.
A total of 2,000 copies are being sold and they are only available at Kinokuniya. Priced at RM49.90, proceeds from the sale of the books will go towards Persatuan Yasmin Ahmad.
The award-winning director passed away at the age of 51 on July 25, 2009 from massive bleeding in the brain during a procedure, after she collapsed due to stroke.
