SHAH ALAM: BlackPink may have only debuted less than three years ago, but it has already emerged as the most popular K-Pop girl group globally to date.
So it was not surprising at all when it sold out both its inaugural Malaysian concerts at Stadium Malawati here.
Yesterday, the 8,000 strong audiences who attended the first show must have had the time of their lives as the quartet brought the roof down with its edgy showmanship and charming personality.
Jennie, Rosé, Lisa and Jisoo opened the show with Ddu-Du Ddu-Du, the phenomenal chart-topper that left the crowd in frenzy as they screamed, and sang along with the girls.
Also popular among BlackPink’s die-hard fans, who call themselves Blinks, was Jennie’s aptly named solo track, Solo, that further elevated the group’s status to international stardom.
The set list also included the outfit’s other much-loved tracks such as Boombayah, Whistle, Playing With Fire and As If It’s Your Last.
Additionally, BlackPink also performed Kiss And Make Up, its collaboration with British singer-songwriter Dua Lipa, and a cover of fellow K-Pop group Wonder Girls’ hit So Hot.
“It’s our first time here in Malaysia and we feel so welcomed that we’d like to come back,” said Jennie to the screaming crowd.
“We’ve met so many amazing Blinks (on this tour) who’ve been showering us with support, and we just want to say thank you,” Rosé gushed.
“Kamu bagus!” Jisoo added cheekily, much to the crowd’s appreciation.
Initially the BlackPink 2019 World Tour [In Your Area] Kuala Lumpur, presented by MacPiePro, was meant to be just a one-night only concert. However, due to overwhelming demand, a second show (taking place this evening) has been added.
BlackPink is set to perform at the famed annual music and arts festival Coachella, as well as embark on the North American and European legs of its first tour, in April.
The BlackPink 2019 World Tour (In Your Area) concerts in Malaysia were presented by Kia Motors.
