#Showbiz: 'It's not worth my time to produce films now' — Rosyam Nor

KUALA LUMPUR: Due to the high cost with lean profit margins in filmmaking, producer and actor Datuk Rosyam Nor now prefers to focus more on his wholesale and retail business instead.

While he still produces dramas, the 52-year-old award-winning artiste said that his production company, Suhan Movies & Trading, is not planning to produce any feature films at the moment.

“Many people have been asking me about it. But the cost is high and the work is tedious, which doesn't make it a very profitable venture so I don’t feel like producing films anymore.

“In the present economic situation, it’s really not worth the effort. It’d be better for me to focus on my ST Rosyam Mart business instead,” he said in a news report yesterday.

Rosyam however added that he will still be acting, as that profession has been his bread and butter ever since he was much younger, when met at a Press screening for the short film, titled Warung Kami, in Petaling Jaya, Selangor recently.

The eight-minute shortie was inspired from his personal experience of dabbling in the wholesale and retail business since June last year.

The idea for the film, which can be viewed on YouTube, was conceived together with his business partner, Datuk Raymond Ho, who is managing director of the Sri Ternak Group of Companies.

Previously, Rosyam’s action film Balistik had collected RM2.3 mil at the box office. Other films like Castello, clocked in RM1.56 mil, followed by Isyarat Cinta (RM800,000) and Rempit Sampai Langit (RM411,000) two years back.
