KUALA LUMPUR: The eight-month-old son of popular comedian Shahrol Azizie Azmi of Shiro successfully underwent surgery for a chronic kidney ailment today.
Shahrol's wife Nor Farhanah Syamimi said that their son Ismail Rifqi underwent five hours of surgery at a private hospital in Subang Jaya, and everything went smoothly.
"The surgery took place at 9.30am and ended at 2.30pm. Our baby is still weak, but he is out of danger and no longer in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital," she said in a news report today.
Nor Farhanah added that she and Shahrol were both relieved that Ismail Rifqi's surgery was over, even though the doctors told them that their son would need follow-up treatment later.
"We were terribly worried about him throughout the surgery period, and could neither rest nor relax. Every minute was spent thinking of him."
Nor Farhanah also said that Shahrol could not accompany her into the hospital because of the strict standard operating procedures (SOP) to curb the spread of Covid-19.
Nevertheless, he waited patiently in his car for the operation to be completed.
It was reported on Sept 9 that Shahrol and Nor Farhanah were heartbroken to hear that Ismail Rifqi needed treatment for one of his kidneys which was swollen.
Nor Farhanah found out about Ismail Rifqi's condition after noticing how easily he caught a fever.
