KUALA LUMPUR: The husband of singer Adira Suhaimi, Datuk Seri Adnan Abu, stands firm in not wanting to divorce his first wife, Datin Seri Sharifah Norshafila Hashim.
This was confirmed by Adnan's lawyer Muhammad Akmal Azman, who announced that his client, also known as Datuk Red, still wanted to keep the family together.
"I was informed that he does not agree with this divorce claim. He (Datuk Red) is salvaging his marriage just like how he is doing the same with his second wife (Adira). He still loves his family," said Akmal after the proceedings of the second mention of Sharifah's divorce claim case at the Lower Syariah Court in Kuala Selangor, today.
Akmal also explained that Sharifah or Datin Red's divorce claim against his client was because there was no understanding between them.
"For Section 47, there are actually many reasons for divorce. For the case (Datuk Red and his wife), they don't have an understanding. That's what was stated.
Although Datin Red appeared in court for the mention proceedings, the mention of the case had to be postponed following Datuk Red's absence due to work matters.
Meanwhile, Datin Red said the separation with Datuk Red was the best move forward for the two of them.
"I don't want to say too much. What I can say is that it's not just my decision.
"But I think divorce is the best way," she said.
It is understood that Datin Red filed for divorce against her husband last January.
In the meantime, Datuk Red's second wife, Adira, also filed for divorce due to lack of understanding at the Syariah Lower Court in Gombak Barat Rawang, Selangor on Oct 25 last year.
Previously, Adira had also filed for divorce in 2019 but withdrew the application for the sake of their children.
Adira and Datuk Red got married in Songkhla, Thailand on Dec 3, 2015 as his second wife.
They are blessed with with four children, namely Anggrek, 6, Asan, 5, Anggun, 4 and Ayob who is now a year old.
Meanwhile, Datuk Red has five other children from his marriage to his first wife, Datin Red.
