KUALA LUMPUR: Actress, Zara Zya, who is currently receiving treatment at a medical center here since Monday, has been diagnosed with Cervical Facet Joint Syndrome and Lumbar Facet Joint Syndrome.
The 39-year-old artiste said that she initially underwent an arthritis examination but was advised to remain at the hospital for further examination, according to a Harian Metro report today.
"Initially, I just wanted to have an examination for my arthritis problem, but the doctor suggested that I be detained and hospitalized for further examination.
"After doing an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) test, the results showed that there was another problem in my neck.
"The doctor then diagnosed the disease as Cervical Facet Joint Syndrome and Lumbar Facet Joint Syndrome.
"I was also informed that the polyarthritis I suffer from can cause the two syndromes to occur," she said.
Zara added that at this time, her condition was stable although there was some pain in the neck.
"So far, I'm fine. It's just that there is pain in certain parts related to the joints, especially in the neck.
"The doctor has not informed me yet about how long I would need to be treated in the hospital as I still have several physiotherapy sessions to complete.
"Yesterday, the doctor allowed me to go out for a while because I had work involving a client. But, it wasn't heavy work. After that, I returned to the hospital," she said.
Cervical Facet Joint Syndrome or neck facet joint syndrome is apparently one of the most common causes of neck pain.
Facet joints are small joints at the back (posterior aspect) of the spine and are susceptible to injury, inflammation, and degeneration.
Lumbar Facet Joint Syndrome is caused by pain arising from the lumbar facet joints.
The pain is usually experienced across the back and may radiate to the buttocks, hips, thighs, and even travel down the leg.
