GEORGE TOWN: A 24-year-old Myanmar national was found dead in Datuk Keramat here today.
The immigrant worker had succumbed to multiple bodily stab wounds in the chest and neck in a secluded spot in Jalan Samak at about 10am.
State Criminal Investigation Department deputy chief Assistant Commissioner Nasir Salleh said initial investigations showed that a group of up to four men attacked the victim while he was riding alone on a motorcycle near two blocks of flats.
"The victim was on his way to report for work at a jewellery shop.
"The group waylaid and attacked him with sharp objects believed to be parangs," Nasir said, adding that the victim died on the spot.
He said police would review the footage of a closed circuit television captured from the flats to shed more light into the killing and urged eyewitnesses to assist police in investigations.
His body was sent to Penang Hospital for post mortem.
No arrest has been made in connection to the incident.
The police have classified the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code with the person convicted faces a mandatory death sentence.
