Booklets, officers to explain on GST for Rompin folks

ROMPIN: To ensure voters in Rompin have accurate information about the Goods and Services Tax (GST), the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry has distributed booklets on the newly-implemented tax system to 38 voting district centre (PDM) in the constituency.

Its minister Datuk Seri Hassan Malek said besides booklets on GST, officers from the ministry had also handed out booklets on business ethic to ensure the people here have a proper understanding on the alleged issues concerning GST.

He said besides providing the booklets, officers from the ministry will be deployed to the ground to assist Barisan Nasional's election machinery to tackle questions on GST and prevent irresponsible traders increase the prices.

"Voters can refer to the GST and business ethic booklet to have a clear understanding on the issues concerning the price and they can lodge a report if traders continue to increase the prices. They can use the booklet as a guidance and refer to our officers for further explanations.

"This is to ensure voters in Rompin receive correct information on GST and no longer have the perception that new tax system introduced by the government was only a burden to the people. Enforcement officers from the ministry will also conduct random checks at business premises in Rompin," he told reporters here.

Hasan said the opposition has been always manipulating issues concerning GST despite knowing that 170 countries have implemented the system.

"Before we implemented the system on April 1. the opposition claimed that a lot of businesses premises will shut down but now even after three weeks nothing has changed. Business is carried out like usual.

"We hope voters in Rompin will not be easily duped by the misleading information spread by the opposition on GST as the tax collected by the government will be used for the benefit of the people," he said.

Meanwhile, Felda chairman Tan Sri Mohd Isa Samad reminded settlers not to be easily duped by misleading information about Felda Global Ventures Holding during election campaign.

"The (opposition) are only recycling issues which were previously highlighted during the 13th general election and now since it is a by election, they are back to lure voters. They are aware that Rompin has about 17 Felda settlements and the settlers could decide the outcome on polling day," he said.
