KUALA LUMPUR: The 2016 UMNO General Assembly begins today with the opening ceremony performed by party President Datuk Seri Najib Razak at Dewan Merdeka, Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), here.
According to tradition, the assembly begins with a parade and the hoisting of the Jalur Gemilang and the UMNO flag, Sang Saka Bangsa, the singing of Negaraku, party song “Bersatu, Bersedia, Berkhidmat” and the three songs of the Wanita, Youth and Puteri wings at Plaza Merdeka, before the event moves to Dewan Merdeka.
Najib, who is also the Prime Minister, will then deliver his presidential policy speech before 2,762 delegates.
Before the policy speech, a financial and membership report will be tabled by Treasurer Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak and party Secretary-General Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.
The assembly takes place for five days from Tuesday. --Bernama
