Hammer recovered from robbers who beat up girl

KUALA LUMPUR: Two men, who police believe had viciously assaulted a teenage girl with a hammer during a robbery, were among six people arrested in connection with the case in Kampung Masjid, Bangi.

Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Othman Nanyan said the six suspects, a woman and five men aged between 21 and 43, will be remanded until tomorrow for further investigations into the robbery.

A hammer, believed to have been used in the attack during the robbery, and items taken from the girl’s home were also recovered, he said.

Othman added two of the suspects, both men, were believed to be behind the robbery while the rest were involved in selling or possessing stolen items.

"The duo have past criminal records and were also believed responsible for several robbery and burglary cases in Kajang area.

"The case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery," Othman said.

The 14-year-old victim is now recuperating at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) where she was admitted after the robbery.

She suffered fractures on the skull and her jaw was dislocated following the attack. Her 48-year-old mother found her lying on her bed, covered in blood after the robbery.
