Traffic police foil attempted murder while manning roadblock

KAJANG: Traffic policemen here foiled an attempted murder and arrested four men during a roadblock in Jalan Reko on Saturday night.

The team manning the roadblock had stopped a grey Honda Accord, with five people inside, at 11.20pm.

When the police team checked the car, the driver tried to bribe them. However, the traffic policemen suspected something amiss and decided to conduct a thorough inspection of the car and its occupants.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said the policemen then noticed that one of the men in the back of the car was covered in blood.

He said further checks showed the man had a deep slash wound to the abdomen. Checks also turned up a parang in the boot of the vehicle.

“Initial investigations revealed that the victim went to a condominium in Setapak to meet with a man at 10pm. When he arrived, he was attacked by eight or nine men. One of the men slashed him with a parang.

“The victim was then bundled into the Honda Accord and driven towards the direction of Kajang,” he said today.

He added one of the suspects had admitted he attacked the victim out of jealousy. However, he did not elaborate on the motive.

Dzaffir said the victim was taken to Kajang Hospital for treatment and was currently in the Red Zone of the intensive care unit, though he is reported to be in stable condition.

“The four suspects, aged in their 20s and 30s, were handed over to Wangsa Maju police to facilitate investigations into attempted murder,” he said.

Dzaffir said Kajang police, meanwhile, would focus investigations on possession of a dangerous weapon, since the parang was found in the car.
