Nur Farah Kartini's brother disappointed at missing court proceedings

KUCHING: The brother of murder victim Nur Farah Kartini Abdullah today expressed disappointment at not being able to attend the court proceedings in Kuala Kubu Bharu.

However, Mohd Farizza Azmi, 28, confirmed that a family representative was present in court.

He added that he was relieved to learn that a suspect had been charged in connection with his sister's murder.

However, he said his family would only be satisfied once the suspect receives an appropriate sentence.

Lance Corporal Muhammad Alif Monjani attached to the Slim River police station was brought before the Kuala Kubu Bharu magistrate's court today on a charge of murdering Nur Farah Kartini, 25.

The 26-year-old accused is alleged to have murdered the Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) graduate at Ladang SKC Keledang in the Hulu Bernam subdistrict in Hulu Selangor between 9 am on July 10 and 6 pm on July 15.

He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years, along with not less than 12 strokes of the rotan if convicted.

Alif was charged before Sessions Court judge Nurul Mardhiah Mohammed Redza, who sat as magistrate for the proceedings. No plea was recorded as murder cases are under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

State prosecution director Ku Hayati Ku Haron led the prosecution while Alif was represented by lawyers Nur Aida Md Zainuddin and Aida Jaafar Mad Ariff.
