KOTA BARU: Police have issued a warning to the public to stay away from the area near Jalan Pos Office Lama, where a 70-metre stretch of the Sungai Kelantan riverbank collapsed on Monday.
State police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said that many locals had visited the site to witness the soil erosion and landslide, as well as to take photographs.
He said that the area remained unsafe and posed a risk to public safety.
"Police have set up yellow tape around the site since Monday to ensure public safety, but many people have ignored our warnings.
"They have visited the site, taken pictures, and even broadcasted live from there. As a result, I have instructed my officers to extend the yellow tape further," he added.
On Monday, it was reported that nearly 70 metres of the Sungai Kelantan riverbank, located behind an apartment building and a hotel on Jalan Pos Office Lama, had collapsed.
The incident raised concerns among nearby business operators.
No casualties were reported in the 10am incident, which is believed to have been caused by the recent floods in the state.
The erosion and landslide also nearly impacted several nearby businesses, including an apartment, a restaurant, and a cafe.
