Bride-to-be accused of hurting baby pleads to be freed on lower bail

KLANG: A woman who pleaded guilty to a charge of causing injury to an 11-month-old baby pleaded in court today for a low bail so she could attend the solemnisation of her marriage.

"I plead guilty and I promise not to do it again. Today is my solemnisation. Tomorrow is my wedding," nursery teacher Nur Suhadah Saharudin, 24, told judge Mardhiah Mohamed Redza.

She was accused of causing physical injuries to the baby boy by pinching his cheeks and ears at 6.15pm at a nursery in Puncak Alam on Dec 13.

The offence under Section 31(1) of the Child Act carries a maximum 20-year jail term or a fine not more than RM50,000, or both, upon conviction.

Nur Suhadah had self mitigated as she did not have a lawyer.

The court set Dec 24 for facts of the case and sentencing.

Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Azamuddin Razak urged the court to set bail at RM15,000 in two sureties.

He asked the accused to surrender her passport to the court and not to harass prosecution witnesses.

Mardhiah allowed RM10,000 bail in one surety.

She ordered Suhadah not to harass victim and ruled that she will revoke the bail if there were any complaints.
