Yap Xin Yuan murder: Investigation papers submitted to prosecutor's office

KAJANG: Police have been told that further action is needed to complete investigations into the murder of teenager Yap Xin Yuan.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said these were the instructions issued by the Selangor Prosecutor's Office after the investigation papers were submitted yesterday.

In the meantime, he said in a statement, two of the three suspects previously held under remanded would be released on bail pursuant to Section 49 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Last month, a decomposed body found in a river in Banting was confirmed to be that of Yap, a 15-year-old who went missing from Batu 11, Cheras, on Dec 19.

On Jan 3, Kajang court magistrate Fatin Dayana Jalil granted an application to allow the police to extend their remand of three family members suspected of involvement.

Naazron said the third suspect has already been released and will act as a prosecution witness.

The investigation paper will be resubmitted once all relevant instructions have been addressed.

"All actions are being conducted meticulously within the legal framework to ensure justice is upheld," he stated.

Previously (Jan 3), Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan had said the police are investigating if there were elements of misunderstanding and drug use behind Yap's death.

He had said they were awaiting toxicology reports and post-mortem results to establish the motive in the case.
