GEORGE TOWN: Two seafood stall operators yesterday hijacked a Penang Island City Council (MBPP) lorry containing items seized from their business premises by the Council’s enforcement team.
The incident occurred at about 9pm, when a dozen MBPP officers arrived at the stalls at Jalan Bagan Jermal here, which were said to be operating without license.
Both operators, in their 20's, engaged in a heated exchange with the officers and somehow managed to drive away with the MBPP lorry, in a bid to stop the officers from taking away their items.
The lorry travelled for about two kilometres to the Pulau Tikus police station, as the officers pursued them on motorcycles.
Upon reaching the station, one of the duo, Mohammad Haziq Ammar Mohd Hussain, 27, lodged a police report claiming that the MBPP officers were seizing his items without prior notice.
"I have applied for a license many times, (but they were) rejected by the council. They tried to issue me summonses three times in the past, but I did my part by applying for the license.
"I did this so that the issue will not be prolonged or lead to any fights with them. A report was lodged and I'll leave it to the police," he said when met outside the police station last night.
