KUCHING: Hours of heavy rain since last night have triggered flash floods in several areas of the state, including Ngemah, Murum and Telang Usan.
Sarawak State Disaster Management secretariat chief Major Ismail Mahedin said floodwaters have inundated several schools, a clinic and some roads.
Premises affected include SK Ng Balingiau, SK Kuala Kebulu, SK Long Bemang and Klinik Long Bemang in Baram.
"Floodwaters in the affected areas have reached about knee-high.
“But the situation is under control, as the rain has stopped and floodwaters are receding.
“It's the weekend, so all the schools are closed and no student or teacher was affected," Ismail said in a statement here today.
