Constable Ahmad Azza Fahmi laid to rest in hometown

TANJUNG MALIM: Constable Ahmad Azza Fahmi Azhar, 22, who was killed in the pre-dawn attack at the Ulu Tiram police station was laid to rest near his hometown in Kampung Poh, near Bidor here at 7.20pm tonight.

The vehicle carrying his remains arrived here at 5.56pm.

The vehicle had earlier in the day left Masjid Tunku Laksamana Abdul Jalil at the Johor police headquarters in Johor Baru, where prayers were held for him and the late Constable Muhamad Shafiq Ahmad Said, 24, who was also killed in the attack.

Ahmad Azza Fahmi's burial at the Kampung Poh Muslim Cemetery was conducted according to the police force's rites.

Members of the police, including officers as well as residents here joined a congregation to perform the 'solat jenazah', which was led by Ahmad Azza Fahmi's father Azhar Khaiden, 54.

Ahmad Azza Fahmi's casket was draped in the Jalur Gemilang. Pallbearers comprising police officers carried the casket to the cemetery.

It was sombre atmosphere at the cemetery with the late policeman's parents, Azhar and Nurhaliza Awaluddin, 49, and their family members.

Also present to pay their last respects were Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay, Perak police chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri and Tapah district police chief Superintendent Mohd Naim Asnawi.

Ahmad Azza Fahmi and Shafiq were killed, while Corporal Mohd Hasif Roslan was injured when a masked intruder stormed the Ulu Tiram police station in Johor at about 3am yesterday.

Police had said the three policemen were believed to have been slashed by the suspect, who was masked and dressed in dark clothing and armed with a parang.

The attacker was shot dead at the scene.
