MARAN: A 38-year-old police corporal sustained serious injuries, while his colleague was hurt when the patrol car they were travelling in to investigate an accident collided head-on with a pick-up truck early this morning (Nov 23).
The corporal, a photographer with the Maran police headquarters, and his colleague, a 29-year-old assistant investigating officer with the rank of sergeant, were on their way to Jengka 19 to investigate an accident.
Meanwhile, the pick-up truck was travelling in the opposite lane during the 3.25am incident.
District police chief Superintendent Wong Kim Wai said preliminary investigations showed the driver of the pick-up truck, a Toyota Hilux, lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer into the patrol car's lane and result in the head-on collision at Km74.5 of Jalan Kuantan-Kuala Lumpur.
"The patrol car driver suffered serious injuries on his left hand while the front seat passenger was injured in the chest.
"Also injured was the 48-year-old driver of the Toyota Hilux," he said in a statement.
He added that all three victims were sent to the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital in Temerloh for treatment.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 43 (1) of the Roads Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving.
