SEMPORNA: A 33-year-old driver was killed after his vehicle was involved in a crash with a four-wheel drive (4WD) at Kilometre 51 of the Semporna-Tawau Road early this morning.
In the 7.30am tragedy, the driver of a Nissan Urvan van died at the scene.
Semporna Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Chief Madzlan Sarman said they received an emergency call, and a team of seven personnel along with a rescue vehicle was deployed.
The Nissan Urvan was travelling from Semporna towards Tawau, and the other vehicle, a Toyota Vigo 4WD, was driven by a 38-year-old man.
"Both drivers were trapped in their vehicles, and the rescue team used traffic accident rescue equipment to extricate them," he said in a statement.
"Unfortunately, the van driver was confirmed dead at the scene by ambulance personnel and his body was handed over to the police for further action."
The driver of the 4WD, who sustained serious injuries, was transported to Semporna Hospital by ambulance for treatment.
