'Amanat Haji Hadi is not a mandate'

KOTA BARU: The “infamous” Hadi’s Mandate or better known as Amanat Haji Hadi, which allegedly accuses Umno members of being infidels, were never documented as Pas’s policy.

Pas Youth deputy chief Ahmad Fahdli Shaari when contacted today also denied that Pas had taken the speech as a mandate and further describe it as a “normal speech”.

Ahmad Fahdli was commenting on Pakatan Harapan chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s call for Pas to retract the controversial speech a few days ahead of the Islamic party’s inking of a collective political charter with Umno tomorrow.

“We have never considered Amanat Haji Hadi as a ‘mandate’. It was only a normal speech. There has never been an official directive to adopt it as such.

“Therefore, the statement by Dr Mahathir for Pas to withdraw Amanat Haji Hadi before inking the charter with Umno is not an issue.”

The supposed decree which was delivered by now Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang during a ceramah in Peradong, Kuala Terengganu in 1981 also allegedly contains aspects of martyrdom in opposing the then Umno-led administration.

Ahmad Fadhli, who is also the Pasir Mas Member of Parliament, urged Dr Mahathir to scrutinise the matter before issuing a statement.

“I would like to suggest for the prime minister to refer to his Cabinet members who were formerly Pas leaders. They were the ones who defended Amanat Haji Hadi back then.”

On Tuesday, Dr Mahathir said Hadi would need to publicly apologise to Umno for allegedly labelling it as an “infidel party” before entering an agreement with Umno.

He said otherwise political cooperation between the two parties would turn difficult.
