DAP urged to sack Ramasamy as Penang DCM over public service monopoly remark

KUALA LUMPUR: A Pakatan Harapan (PH) Member of Parliament today called on DAP to sack Penang Deputy Chief Minister P. Ramasamy for his statement proposing to the Unity Government to break racial monopoly in the public service sector.

Hulu Langat Member of Parliament Mohd Sany Hamzan said the statement of the Penang DAP Deputy Chairman had caused problems for PH.

"DAP I believe is pressured by this kind of statement and needs to do something because this is not the first (such) statement from him that has troubled DAP.

"The most appropriate action for me is to fire him as the Deputy Chief Minister of Penang because I believe there are many other leaders who are more competent to be appointed as the Penang deputy Chief Minister," he said in a statement today.

He claimed that Ramasamy was once again looking for trouble and trying to become a hero of his people through such cheap publicity.

"This kind of statement is against the Madani Malaysia policy which is being pioneered by the government led by (Datuk Seri) Anwar Ibrahim now and it is meant to sabotage him.

"For me, it (such remarks) are inappropriate for a citizen of this country, if they want to maintain harmony between races. Therefore, I call on the people of this country not to entertain persons such as this," he said.

Ramasamy in a statement yesterday asked the Unity Government led by Anwar to reform the public service sector, so that it is no longer dominated by one race.

He said the debate that the participation of many Malays in the public sector, to balance the dominance of the Chinese in the economy as stated by the former Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, no longer applies.

Ramasamy, who is also the Penang DAP Deputy Chairman, said such racist policies could no longer be defended, especially with the Unity Government now in power.

Therefore, he said, the Prime Minister needs to immediately address the issue of the dominance of one race in the public service sector.
