KOTA BARU: Pas is ready to face a by-election for the Nenggiri state seat following the Kelantan State Assembly's decision to declare it vacant.
Its vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said that the party was well-prepared for the by-election, with its election machinery already in gear.
"It will not be an issue for Pas if the Nenggiri by-election is held, as our machinery has been ready since the issue of the assemblyman expressing his open support for the Prime Minister last year," he said.
Mohd Amar, who is also the Panchor assemblyman, said this during a press conference at his office today.
He added that Pas had directed its members and supporters to assist the party's machinery in Nenggiri during the by-election.
Earlier today, Amar declared the Nenggiri seat vacant after he received a notice that assemblyman, Mohd Azizi Abu Naim ceased to be a Bersatu member.
Nenggiri is one of the 45 state seats in Kelantan.
During the 15th General Election, Azizi contested the seat on a Pas-Bersatu ticket and won with a majority of 810 votes. Azizi garnered 6,517 votes against Barisan Nasional's candidate Ab Aziz Yusoff, who received 5,707 votes.
The general election saw Pas win 43 out of the 45 seats, while Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan each won one seat.
