Despite playing 'rubbish' football this year, Selangor will maintain their German touch for the 2022 season.
The Red Giants extended their trophyless outing to six seasons with poor performances in the Super League and Malaysia Cup this year.
After finishing fifth in the Super League, they were defeated 3-0 on aggregate by KL City in the Malaysia Cup quarter-finals.
Their only achievement was producing a Super League Golden Boot winner in Ifedayo Omosuyi, who scored 26 goals.
However, Ifedayo and right-back Syahmi Safari are expected to join other teams next year.
Following the failure to achieve their targets, the Red Giants have replaced German-born coach Karsten Neitzel with his countryman Michael Feichtenbeiner, who is also the technical director, for the new season.
Feichtenbeiner will double up as the team's technical director next year.
Selangor chief executive officer Dr Johan Kamal Hamidon confirmed Feichtenbeiner's appointment in a statement yesterday.
"We hope to rectify our weaknesses ahead of the new season. I admit Selangor did not achieve their targets this year. It was due to many reasons, but we will look into them and turn things around.
"We will retain most of the players. I anticipate that around 15 per cent of the current squad will leave," said Johan.
On the appointment of Feichtenbeiner, Selangor technical committee chairman Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar said: "The team played well when Feichtenbeiner was the caretaker coach last year.
"We want to continue our philosophy of mixing up the team with young and senior players and playing the high pressing game.
"We want to build a team for the future. I believe we are in the right place and direction," said Shahril. Neitzel, however, is still undecided on whether he will stay at Selangor, although he still has a year left on his contract.
Should he stay, he will either become Feichtenbeiner's assistant for the first team or coach the feeder team.
