Terengganu humble hosts Shan in Asean Club Championship

KUALA LUMPUR: Terengganu revived their hopes in the Asean Club Championship after recording a sensational 5-0 win over nine-man Shan United in their Group A clash at the Thuwunna Stadium in Yangon on Wednesday.

The Turtles who were winless after two matches bulldozed the hosts with a dominant display as they raced to a 3-0 lead in the first half.

Skipper Safawi Rasid opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 11th minute after a VAR check showed Shan United's Moussa Bakayoko stepped on Shahrul Nizam Ros Hasni, forcing Japanese referee Koji Takasaki to award the spot kick.

Filipino forward Manuel Ott doubled the visitor's lead in the 25th minute after rifling a shot to the top corner thanks to Engku Shakir Engku Yacob's well-weighted pass.

It turned from bad to worse for Shan United after they were reduced to 10 players after Zwe Htet Min was sent off for bringing down Engku Shakir three minutes into the first half added time, and Akhyar Rashid made no mistake to slot in Terengganu's third goal.

In the second half, Terengganu continued their attacking game and added their fourth goal as Ott bagged his brace in the 64th minute and seven minutes later it was Akhyar's turn to net his brace making it 5-0 on the 71st minute.

Shan United were reduced to nine players when Zwe Khant Min picked up his second booking in the 78th minute.
