KOTA BARU: Nur Zuliana Zaara Zulkifli, 5, who is believed to be the victim of abuse by her father and stepmother, suffers from 10 broken ribs.
Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital director Datuk Dr Ghazali Hasni Md Hassan said Nur Zuliana Zaara (Yaya) also has pneumonia and trauma in the liver, bruises in the chest, stomach and back.
“Yaya’s back injury will have long-term effects,” he told a press conference at his office here, today.
Dr Ghazali said Yaya has become more stable but depressed following physical abuse in the past three to six months.
“She is very thin because of inadequate food and only weighs about 15 kilogrammes compared to the ideal weight of between 20 to 30 kilogrammes.
“We are providing her with suitable nutrition and medicine for her to recover. Visitors are discouraged for the time being,” he added.
Meanwhile, Kelantan Police chief Datuk Mazlan Lazim said they are hunting down two suspects who were also her guardians.
“We believe that the two suspects have fled to a neighbouring country and we will seek the assistance of the Royal Thai Police to track them down.
“The case is being investigated under Section 31 (1) of the Child Act 2001 for physical abuse,” he said.
Newspapers today reported that Nur Zuliana was seriously injured, believed to have been the victim of physical abuse.
Nur Zuliana’s poor state of health shocked her biological mother, Sana Abdul Malek, 28.
