PETALING JAYA: A Bangladeshi man was injured when a molotov cocktail was thrown at a nightclub at Encorp Strand Garden Office, Kota Damansara this afternoon.
The victim, only known as Sujan, in his 30s, suffered burns to his head and hands in the 4.15pm attack.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zani Che Din said initial investigation revealed that two men came in a black Audi and threw two molotov cocktails into the premises located at the first floor of the building.
"The victim and several other workers were cleaning and preparing for the night club operation when the incident occurred.
"Two molotov cocktails tied with firecrackers were thrown towards the night club main entrance, but only one was exploded," he told reporters at the scene.
Zani said police had ruled out terrorist attack.
"We believed the attack is related to business extortion, it is a gangster threat over protection money.
"The night club owner had been threatened before the incident. Police are investigating from all angles," he said, adding police would retrieve closed-circuit television footage from the nearby premises to assist investigation.
He said the victim was rushed to Sungai Buloh Hospital for treatment.
The case was being investigated for attempt to murder and cause mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to cause damage.
