LANGKAWI: Two people were killed while another two seriously injured after their respective motorcycles collided head-on in Kampung Kumpulan, Jalan Ulu Melaka here, last night.
In the 10.30pm incident, the dead victims were identified as Myanmar national, Anas Ali, 28, and student, Ku Nur Shahrizal Ku Nor Sazali, 16. Both victims were killed on the spot.
Langkawi District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Shariman Ashari, said during the incident, Anas was riding a motorcycle with two pillion riders on the way from Ulu Melaka to Ayer Hangat.
"Meanwhile the motorcycle ridden by Ku Nur Shahrizal was coming from the opposite direction and they were believed to have collided head-on," he said in a statement here today.
Shariman said the strong impact caused both riders to be seriously injured and died at the scene.
"Meanwhile, two pillion riders, a woman and a child aged 20 and five respectively, were thrown some 10 meters away. They were seriously injured and sent to the Sultanah Maliha Hospital (HSM) for treatment.
"Both bodies were taken to the HSM Forensic Unit for autopsy," he said, adding the case was being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
