GURUN: A lorry assistant was trapped after his lorry skidded off the road and collided with a signboard at Kilometer 77.7 of the North-South Expressway, heading south today.
The lorry driver, aged 33, and another assistant, aged 24, were also injured in the accident.
Guar Chempedak Fire and Rescue station chief Assistant Fire Officer Mohd Fauzi Razali said his team received the distress call at 5.49pm.
He said a Guar Chempedak Fire and Rescue Station team, led by Senior Fire Officer II Mohd Shahril Abd Rahman, arrived at the scene with six personnel, joined by eight more from the Pendang Fire and Rescue Station.
"Upon arrival, we found that the lorry had skidded and hit a highway signboard.
"There were three victims in the lorry. Two were safely rescued with the public's help and taken to the hospital by ambulance.
"However, one assistant, trapped on the left side of the lorry, had to be extricated with the help of the fire department. The rescue operation is still ongoing," he said in a statement today.
The incident caused traffic congestion, which is still ongoing.
