Foul stench leads to discovery of dead body in Pandan flat

AMPANG JAYA: A foul stench emanating from a flat in Pandan Jaya on Tuesday led to the decomposing body of a woman.

Police had about 7pm received a call from an individual who had complained about a rotting smell coming from the flat unit.

Ampang Jaya district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Hamzah Alias, said the deceased was a 52-year-old woman who lived alone in the unit.

“Upon receiving the report at 7.08pm, an investigating officer as well as a police cameraman went to the location to inspect the unit.

“Upon entering the flat, they found the deceased lying prone on the living room floor.

“The body was already bloated and decomposed.

“Checks on the deceased showed no signs of injury. A sweep of the scene also showed no evidence which could link the incident to foul play,” he said.

Hamzah said the woman, who was single, had been living in the flat for 20 years. She was working as an agent for ‘umrah’ pilgrims.

He said the body was sent to the Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (HUKM) for a post-mortem examination. The case has been classified as sudden death.
